Biorhythm Cycles Throughout History

A physician during the late 1800s, named Wilhelm Fliess, came to the conclusion that a person’s life is made up of cycles.

Since he was a close friend of Sigmund Freud, his idea received lots of attention because of the association with the famous scientist.

Fleiss identified a 23 and 28-day cycle. He assigned the 23-day cycle to men, while assigning the 28-day cycle to women (because of their menstrual cycle).

After Wilhelm Fliess’s work in the early 1900s, a professor named Hermann Swoboda independently discovered biorhythm cycles on his own. His conclusions were completely separate from Fliess.

Yet again, another professor named Alfred Teltscher believed a large part of the success of college students was related to 33-day cycles.

As more attention was raised and more people began coming onboard with the biorhythm phenomena, the first academic book was authored. It was by a gentleman named Nikolai Parna, in 1923. This first book published about biorhythms was entitled Rhythm, Life and Creation.

Through the 20th century, biorhythms had gained more popularity, especially in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s.

More books were being written and even a large emphasis was being placed on biorhythm calculators. With so many people prescribing to the idea, articles about biorhythms were being found in scientific journals, yet most of the studies (98 of 154) show that biorhythms are not valid and they are no better at predictions than random chance.

With large numbers to prove biorhythms are nothing more than pseudoscience, there are still quite a few that tend to prove biorhythms are for real and should be taken seriously.

What Are Biorhythms Really?

Biorhythms are body cycles that regulate your health, emotions, and even your intellect.

As we discussed previously, each person has three basic biorhythm cycles: a physical cycle of 23 days, a 28-day emotional cycle, and an intellectual cycle of which lasts 33 days. The emotional biorhythmic cycle regulates moods, nerves, affection, and creativity.

How Is Biorhythm Calculated?

Biorhythms use a formulaic style of calculations and graphs which can be used to make predictions about your life. These calculations are not unfounded and have lots of evidence of truth.

The premise and process are based on sine waves. These are oscillating curves which are carefully calculated from these three formulas: physical (a 23-day cycle), emotional (a 28-day cycle), and intellectual (a 33-day cycle).

So, a biorhythm calculation is done by using anyone’s birthdate.

How Do You Read a Biorhythm Number?

Biorhythm charts show an individual’s biorhythms for a specific period of time. It could be for a month or more, it could show a biorhythm number for only a day, or a week, two weeks, etc.

The biorhythm chart displays three separate lines that are colored. It contains a red line, for example, would show the physical cycle, while a green line would represent the person’s emotional biorhythm cycle.

Are Biorhythms True?

The answer to that question is yes. Evidence is actually found for real biological rhythms in humans.

And yes, other animals have their rhythms. Simply look at birds with their migrating at certain times of year, cicadas following 13 years and 17-year cycles, and even butterflies migrate according to their cycles.

What Are the Benefits Of Knowing Biorhythms?

One of the benefits of a biorhythm calendar is that it installs confidence in us. If you learn to combine your biorhythms and get stronger biorhythms, you can be happier in your life.

For example, suppose your spouse has been complaining that your relationship is lacking romance. You can answer her easily with a solution by finding a day when your passion and your spouse’s passion are “lucky”. Take that lucky day and plan a very romantic evening she will adore. Chances are that evening will probably turn out the best you two have ever had.
